David Thuku            Board Member

Mr. David Thuku, joined Family Bank in January 2013, taking on the role of Director, Retail Banking.He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Liverpool, UK. He cites integrity, accountability and fidelity to structures and systems as critical enablers for sustained success of the bank.

Before embarking on a career in Banking, David trained as a teacher at Kenyatta University where he earned his first degree, Bachelor of Education, B.Ed (Sciences). He credits his early training for his fervent belief in mentorship and coaching. He constantly challenges people to dream beyond their own imagination as he believes anything is possible with focus, purposefulness and resilience. David also holds an MBA (Finance) from the University of Nairobi, Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Marketing Institute of Singapore and a Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching from the Academy of Executive Coaching (UK).

 

Mr. Muema Muindi      Board Member

Mr. Muindi brings his unique experience as a youthful entrepreneur to the board of the Family Group Foundation. He has been recognized among the Top 40 Under 40 Business Leaders in East Africa. He serves as the managing director of Kenya Orient Insurance Company Limited where he has overseen an impressive jump in its revenues. With a Masters of Science in Economic Development from Eastern University USA, Mr. Muindi’s is lending his expertise in growing small enterprises to the Family Group Foundation. He has previous experience with charitable organizations having served as the Executive Director of Tumaini Foundation, a registered non-profit organization in Virginia, USA.

 

Prof. David K. Some       Board Member

Professor Some brings his strong background in leadership and management in the areas of education and agriculture to the Family Group Foundation. He is the current Chief Executive Officer of Commission for Higher Education and a former Vice Chancellor of Moi University, Eldoret. Professor Some holds a Doctorate in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Newcastle-upon Tyne in the UK and has been invaluable in shaping agribusiness pillar in the Family Group Foundation.

 

Annie Muya                        Board Member

Annie was part of the pioneer team that set up the foundation.  She identifies and works with foundation partners and oversees the strategic development of the current and emerging foundation initiatives.
Prior to joining the foundation, Anne spent ten years as an educator and taught and developed curricula for literacy.  Earlier in her career, Anne assisted in the management of a research project that focused on retention rates for school-going girls in Kenya and around Africa. More recently, Anne has also ventured into the world of real estate development, farming and agriculture-related technology and serves on the boards of a real estate development company and a local tea estate.
She brings to the foundation a wealth of knowledge about education, agriculture and entrepreneurship, which are key pillars of the foundation.  Anne has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French Literature from Bryn Mawr College and a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching from Teacher’s College, Columbia University.

 

Rebecca Mbithi                      Board Secretary

Rebecca was appointed Company Secretary & Head of Legal at Family Bank Limited, in January 2015.  She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Masters in Business Administration from United States International University. She is a Certified Public Secretary and a Certified Public Accountant.
Rebecca has over fourteen years’ experience in legal and Company Secretarial practice both as an advocate and also at top management level in two large organizations. She served as Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs in Kenya Tea Development Agency Ltd for four years before joining Rift Valley Railways as the Company Secretary and Legal Counsel for five years. She has vast experience in corporate governance and has served in the Corporate Governance and Standards Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries Kenya.
